Deer Hunting and Wives
Any advice as to how to sell deer hunting outings to a skeptical wife?
I sense rising irritation with mine, but there's not much time left to get the buck I'm after. That explanation didn't sell well, though.

Re: Deer Hunting and Wives
Couple that work for me after being gone for an extended time and looking for more time......
I just found a 100 dollar bill today, is it yours?
You shot one already I didn't yet. ( this one is still working yet this year)
We'll if we all going to stay home this is a good day to have family cleaning day in the basement.
Fine I'll stay with the kids and will invite a bunch of buddies over to watch tv and eat all your freshly made snacks.
And the best one that works almost all the time.... If you want just you and me time let's stay in bed all day and pretend it's our honeymoon again.

Compromise and make a point to do a couple family/ wifey outings as a way to say thanks for letting me hunt. Make sure you say.....I want to do this for you because you were patient with me during hunting season. Kiss arsh too.

This strategy was deployed earlier this week and is still ongoing. I'm waiting to see if I can go tomorrow night without tension or "the look."

Re: Deer Hunting and Wives
I told my wife before we got married to never make me choose between her and hunting/fishing because she won't like the outcome!!
So far it's working!!
Seriously though my wife is great about it. She understands how important this is to my life and supports me completely. Never heard a complaint once from her and I am very thankful for that. She knows I will more than make up for it the rest of the year. Opening day of the bow season this year I killed a buck and she helped me drag it out of the marsh. We had a great time and glad we could share the experience. She was telling everybody about it so I know she had a blast. I try to involve her when I can so she can experience what I love to do. I think that helps her understand why it's so important to me.

Re: Deer Hunting and Wives
My wife loves venison as much as I do. That helps a little I think. She knows I love hunting, and that my ex was a serious (bad word) and she hated it so bad when I hunted. I made it known from day one what she was getting herself into, and she is totally okay with it. We been together for almost 6 years now and she never has griped once.

Re: Deer Hunting and Wives
Wives are easy, kids are where the hunting time takes a serious nose dive. I'm working OT with the kids all off season (save for scouting) to get out in the woods as much as I can in the fall. Its been working great and I think we have a balance, however even with that balance I think many wives have had enough by the time late season rolls around.
In my experience wives can be easily won over by wasting some time with them, doing a few small things on "her" list, money or just about anything that costs money. All worth it if I can find more time in the woods.

Re: Deer Hunting and Wives
I'm fortunate... I'm self employed and have a job that naturally slows this time of year giving me time to hunt. No kids either...It took me and the wife a few years for her to understand the whole hunting thing.... Now she understands I'll disappear for a bit lol... It was tough for a few years tho. I do try to spend some time... Especially when it rains real hard
