Mature bucks with does.

Unread postby Stanley » Sat Dec 07, 2013 4:56 pm

How many of the mature bucks you have killed were with does during the rut. Not to get too technical, lets say 4.5 years and older.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Only one and believe it or not I called him away from the doe with my TrueTalker during the rut. The date was November 2nd about 5 years ago.

Every other one I have seen but not killed that I believe met that age was a loner.

Probably 2, killed a nice 8 pointer in Iowa a few years ago that came in following a doe, I'm sure he was at least 4 years old based on body size.

Killed a 10 pointer two years ago that was with does but left them to scent check the island I was on, when I killed him.....he could have been a 3 y.o.

Off the top of my head I don't think any of the mature bucks I have shot were with a doe... I have seen them with does, but don't think I ever shot one that was with a doe. Only a few of my mature bucks came from rut though, most were shot early season on the edge of bedding.

never killed a 4.5...
So zero.

The two 3.5 year olds I killed were alone although one came in sniffing downwind for the James River scent I had out...
