Bow instead of gun

Unread postby wibow » Sat Nov 23, 2013 3:20 am

Interested to see who is taking the bow out tomorrow instead of the gun. I have a few parcels where guns aren't allowed I'll be hitting. Looking forward!

I am not in WI but when gun season opens in my state I will be taking out my MZ. One little piece I hunt which is my friends place, I cannot use guns there so I will have to stick with the bow. I do not mind though since he is nice enough to hunt there by myself.

I went gun hunting last weekend for the first time in years. It was fun but the weather wasn't too good. I seen one buck about 135 and ended up passing him.

I'm back bowhunting this weekend.

Will be taking both in PA I feel the deer may come through my area on the sneak or slow enough to get the bow ready. Not saying I wont just blast them with the rifle first, but want to have that option. I really want to get a nice buck with my bow, but have yet to put a buck down with my uncles Springfield 1903 a3-03 in 30-06. Might out weigh the bow choice.

The first Saturday I will be hunting in an area with an extended bear season. And will only be taking the gun, assuming that I don't get one this weekend.
NEXT YEAR I' HOLDING OUT FOR A BIG ONE!!

I've done it in bowhunting only areas (e.g. park hunts). Not too often outside of those areas.

My last several archery bucks were taken during an open gun season.

But, tomorrow, I'm taking my gun and bow. My gun is a S&W 386 XL Hunter (revolver). My range is 2X as far with the bow as it is that weapon! :)

This is my first year I decided not to gun hunt in 20 seasons I have hunted. Overseas deployments and other military obligations not included. Im in love with archery season now, and it may stay that way.

Time to break out the .270. Love to bowhunt but I really like the smell of burnt gunpowder.
I hunt whitetails all year long.

I'm done with the gun. If my son didn't want to go i would be sleeping in and waiting for the public land massacre to be over. But im hoping we can get one of the two big bucks in the morning. And hopefully to get him to gut the thing himself:)
