I know they can duck fast, but is it me or did the shot seem like it would have been a "high" hit if it connected?

I did notice the doe was on alert and aware that something was not right. I think they react differently in that situation. If that doe was feeding and relaxed, she may have not ducked that arrow.

Re: Here is why I aim low.....
Last buck that reacted to the shot for me was 1988. I was on the ground and the buck was looking at me. Calm quite days are a recipe for reacting to the bow shot. Moving deer don't react very often and un-alerted deer don't react very often.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Here is why I aim low.....
I shoot a bow that maybe hits 180 fps. I never aim low. I've never had one duck me yet but did have a buck move to chase a doe as I released in which I hit him in the spine. Never got him. Speed would have killed that buck. That's the only time I can say speed would have killed for me in 26 years of bow hunting.
I also thought that shot on the video would've been on the high side but maybe not. Alert deer are tough to shoot.

Personally, I cannot see with my eyes a deer duck as I shoot at it.
But I believe that it is more common than not.
Anyway, aiming for low vitals cannot hurt since they do not jump up.

Good point, however human error doesn't have a preference up or down, left or right. That is why I aim middle.

Re: Here is why I aim low.....
If I have a nervous deer I am aiming low for sure, just hasn't happened to me yet. A few of theme were nervous but in so close it didn't matter. Otherwise I just aim to take out of the most vitals, not sure who first said this but I try and "aim for the exit hole" if you catch my drift. My buck this year was in close and quartering to me a bit, I hit him up high just behind the shoulder blade and the exit was just behind the ribs and low. Have to consider those angles because they don't always stand broadside.

Never had a deer duck an arrow on me. Shooting an alert deer looking right at you is asking for trouble so I don't like to take those shots.

Re: Here is why I aim low.....
I had the first deer ever duck on me this year and it just so happened to be the biggest buck I've ever shot at.. was walking quickly at 35 yards and wanted to stop it so grunted lightly with my mouth and as soon as he stopped I let the arrow go and it never had a a chance, before his head even turned he was ducking... For future shots like this I will still stop them but aiming low for sure next time. I wonder how many mature bucks have learned this trick and evaded the arrow???

Not a trick, a deer ducks down to load their legs like a spring.....then away they go.
Its my opinion that deer duck at the sound of the shot.
Unless they are moving.
