buck bedding with southern exposure
when it's cold how often do you see a buck ignore the "rules" and bed on a slope or point with sun exposure even when the wind was not in his favor instead of bedding where you would normally expect him to because it got no direct sunlight. what would the conditions need to be, thick cover, etc.

I think that they will choose the southern exposure areas that are safest. That maybe thick cover or having the ability to see possible threats. It's not too often outside of the rut when a mature buck will make himself vulnerable like that. IMO
I see this same behavior on very windy days. They are on the leeward side of hills to get out of the wind.
