Almost killed the 140. Would you have shot?

Unread postby PredatorTC » Sat Nov 09, 2013 12:59 pm

I'm in hill country and as some of you know the first buck I saw this morning was a 140 class buck up the hill. I moved up the hill and for the rest of the day, every deer was within shooting distance. I had 5 different 1.5 year olds and a decent 2.5 that was tempting. I decided that if the 2.5 year old came back, I was going to shoot it if I could on film. Until prime time tonight the 140 came over the top of the ridge looking for a doe. I got to full draw and had him at ten yards with my pin on his chest and my bow camera rolling. I thought over an over and over weather or not I should take the shot and figured he would turn and I would get a nice quartering shot. As you can se in this video, there was no chance for that. I know that the shot was do-able but I hate the feeling of loosing a buck because I couldn't wait a few seconds for a better shot.

Would you have taken the shot?

Is he spooked bad or just worked up?

I saw him twice today, so I hope tomorrow is the day. I think tomorrow is suppose to be windy as heck though? :?

You did the right thing... no shot there. I don't think be boogered too badly... he knew something was up. It would not suprise me if he is on the same ridge in the AM tomorrow. Agree he looks 140!

First day ever hunting hill country and your making it looks easy! Great job having one heck of a day. You made the right decision since there was no shot there.

I did not see a shot. I did see the potential for a downer if an Ave Maria was taken.

If you decide to get after him again (which I would) I would not let higher winds discourage you. I sat ALL day on top of a ridge exactly last week with high winds and took this home .
