Yesterday morning I was in a new area and decided to poke around a little since it was raining and windy. I have plotted my findings on a map to show rubs, scrapes and the bed. I am looking for insight on what type of wind you guys think this buck will be using this bed on. North is UP in this pic. I have also attached pics of approaching the bed, the actual bed, looking at the group of old and new rubs from the bed site, and then one of the rubs along the edge of the ridge. Can anyone tell me what direction this buck is laying in his bed? I will be able to get pretty close to this bed without being seen.
Found my first textbook buck bed . . . . now what?

Have watched the videos, and from what I gather that buck would likely use this bed on a W or SW wind. If this is the case, would anyone like to suggest a good access route and stand location? There is a gravel access road to the south, but the northern edge is a river, and while you can walk the shoreline below the ridge, it is nearly impossible to make up the steep banks on the N side, especially if you had to do so quietly because its all overgrown with briars and thin sapplings.

Hi Tater,
Must of missed this post... To be honest it don't look like thats the primary bed for the area. I wouldn't doubt it if thats a satalite bed, and the big buck bed is nearby... To tell the direction of the wind and the deer you can look for a blockade up against the bed, such as a fallen tree, a stump, thick cover, etc. Most often wind based beds will have open terrain in front of them where they can watch, and heavy cover, or at least a vision block from behind... They face down wind. Blockade to back.

Pictures can be tough to tell but that bed doesn't look very worn. There would have to be several beds in that immediate area and a ton of buck sign to warrant much attention. Idk what your predominant wind direction is in that area but I would look for primary beds on points laid out for that wind.
Best of luck.
