Im putting the pressure on myself.
Were leaving in the AM for a 4 day public land buck hunt looking for a 130ish deer. I figured I would post up here to help me keep focused and have a place to answer to if I dont get it done, or celebrate when I do.
Pics to come on Weds...

Well keep it as a desire instead of a goal in case you don't get an opportunity. Use quiet and stealthy access with the wind in your favor near thick bedding and out your time in

Re: Im putting the pressure...
Welp, I failed.
I set my nephew up in a little area that offers open shot opportunities at 25 yards and under which would be great for a 1st kill, so what does he do? Basically kneels down and leans off his stand to get a walking 37 yard shot at a buck, a buck that in another 30 yards would have been a perfect broadside shot for me. "I was going to text you that a big buck was headed your way, but then he gave me a shot". He has never shot anything. never a deer, never a duck, NOTHING, but he thinks this was OK for his 1st "poke"... Im in disbelief and this will probably be my last time helping new hunters as it always comes back to bite me in the rear.

Take it easy crank, new hunters mess up, maybe next time put him in a tree a little further away from you and keep on teaching. A lot of times people get what you are saying but until they have lived it and messed up or lost a deer they don't truly understand.

I would have gotten 2 shots off...No joke, been there done that!
All is good, were going to try and make it out there again sometime this season. Its just a little rough to drive 500 miles round trip and get a skunk. I guess thats why they call it hunting and not killing.
I made my own mistakes too...

Thats good! Geeze makes me think back to all the dumb things i did myself when i was starting out. Letting him know what he did wrong and getting back out there to try it again, i like it!
