Bed help
Green dot - buck bed
Yellow dots – parking
Red rectangle – thick pines, roughly 10 years old
Blue rectangle – 2 week old cutover
White dot – possible morning stand
Red dot – afternoon lok on stand
Ok here’s the scenario. Help if you can. I found what I think is a buck bed where the green dot is. Thick brush to his back(NW side of the bed). Myself and a couple other friends (also beast members) were discussing the following issue. These woods are big mature pines. The underbrush is chest to neck high. But I could climb a tree 60’ if needed and see a long ways. Also, we are currently in rifle season. I’d prefer to kill him with a bow but wont rule out a rifle. I was asking them what would be wrong with getting there really early one morning and climbing where the white dot is. I’m talking like 3-4 hours before daylight. Assuming he isn’t around at that time I should be able to climb a tree undetected and just wait on daylight. Even if he gets to his bed before sun up I will still be in position to see him once daylight approaches. The distance between the green dot and white dot is roughly 100 yards and I could see right in his bed from the white dot if I get high.
My other option is to park at the yellow dot circled in pink and access the red dot with a lok on for an afternoon hunt. Both scenarios would require a NW or N wind.
On another note our deer are at the begining stages of the rut. Several people have witnessed chasing within the last couple days. SHould I wait until later to try or go for it now?
Give me your thoughts.

I would try that if I had the chance. Have you sat in the bed? Are you sure you can see the bed from that tree? I say go for it and regroup if that doesn't work.

Yes, I can clearly see the bed from the white dot.

Re: Bed help
Since the rut is kicking off, where are the does bedding? I would expect him to spend his nights checking on the ladies, which should give you an idea of how he'll approach or leave his bed.

Re: Bed help
I found a few different doe beds SW of where he is bedded. Each of them had multiple beds in the sage grass.

Re: Bed help
I guess my main reason for the post was to ask about the morning approach. What factors could alter my plans? Like, how far down wind will he scent check before he approaches his bed? What time will he get back to his bed? Will the rut affect things?
The white dot is basically where I been parking. So I feel safe that he wont scent check to that point. Or will he? Should I park my truck right there or move it further out of sight? I would guess I need to move it out of sight.

Re: Bed help
Here's a topo shot of the area. The bed is on that point right in the middle of the screen.

Here's the original access pic again. We're having technical difficulties.

Re: Bed help
The 100 yard very early option looks good, if you can get there undetected.

I’m thinking I can. I’m sure there will be a hiccup somewhere along the line. But everything is shaping up for me to give it a crack Friday morning.
