Cattail punks are a good alternate if you can't get a hold of milkweeds.

Do you mind if I ask what the milkweed is for?

Milkwwed seeds used to check ( and watch) wind direction

To show which way the wind is actually blowing.

So say your smart phone says the wind is out of the North, throw out some milkweed and it could do anything but head in the direction the wind "is supposed to be blowing". Some of the guys that have been using it for years can probably answer better than I though.

Saturday evening when I left the truck the radio said a 16 mph ssw west with gusts to 23 mph. I set in a field corner at the bottom of a big bluff thinking my scent was blowing out to the field. Well the big wave just rolled my scent back the way the wind was suppose to be coming from. Eventually i will have some victories, but so far this year my lessons have not been fun ones.

I am looking at loads of them outside my office if anyone needs some. They are not quite dry and falling apart yet. Perfect pickings. I'll be happy to send some. You guys have helped me out a bunch!

Thanks for posting this. If anyone is willing to send some to LA, I will compensate. Please PM me if you are interested in helping.

I am new to hunting hills. Last weekend I was hunting in hilly land with what I thought was a good wind. The whole time I was thinking to myself, "where is my scent really going?" ROOKIE I tell ya.

For those of you new to milk weed, its way more than just a wind direction checker. It shows wind currents, thermals, even in dead calm it will show direction of current that can't be detected with strings or powder... Best of all, it shows currents in the distance, you can watch the milkweed float off in the distance and see if the current changes direction cause of obstacles or thermals, you can see where wind and thermals collide with out walking to that spot...

And most important of all, you will start to see trends with milkweed and slight thermal currents, and wind direction changes do to terrain and can start to predict how wind will flow at your hunting spots based on what you have seen over and over dropping milkweed... I am like jonney apple seed out there dropping these constantly as I scout and hunt and still learning after 30 years of it...

X2. I have an extra ziploc in the freezer just for off-season scouting!
