What is everyones #1 thing they have learned from the beast

Unread postby Brad » Tue Oct 22, 2013 12:39 pm

I was on a road test today day dreaming about the Beast and got to thinking what everyone would say is their biggest tip they have learned from the site. Only rule is you only get one, and you have to have learned it here.

My #1 is hunting/scouting the thick transition lines, i have increased my sightings/kills just by setting up on the transition lines, regardless of the time of the year. I have had amazing success just by using that one tip.

I have learned that there are a lot of hard core hunters out there in the woods and fields.

Dan has had many one sentence qoutes on hunting that just totally made things make so much sense. Im not sure if he realized some of those one liner qoutes really helped better myself, and maybe others become a better hunter.. The bad thing is I never wrote any of them down and don't remember what threads they were in. Someone should should begin a "Best Hunting Beast qoutes" thread. The other Veteran beast hunters have had some excellent advice also. I guess the one thing I really learned is that you cannot approach mature bucks like an immature buck. They are a different breed of their own.

One word........Milkweed!

That one tip alone has really helped me understand wind currents better and explained why many of my hunts in the past ended in failure.

Where to find big bucks during daylight.

I realized I was doing some things right, but in the wrong areas and doing some things wrong, in the right areas...

If that makes sense...

Paying attention to the details is often times the difference between bagging a buck or having another encounter to tell your buddies about.

I've learned that studying the habits and methods of successful hunters can really expedite the learning curve.

Be mobile. I used to hunt the same ladder stands and permanent stands. My sightings and "being in the game" has increased 10 fold since going strictly mobile. To this day I have people that wonder why I refuse to hang and sit permanent stands and only mobile, the answer is simple, it is far too easy to overhunt a permanent stand, and I like the flexibility to move at a moments notice.

Thermal tunnel sucked me in... Dan's bedding explanations then brought it all together.

I have learned that no matter who you are, there are more things to learn. And if you EVER feel like you are not learning anything, you are wasting your time.
