Early Season Corn Feilds?
This year my most "promising" area to hunt has corn instead of beans. This is the first time Ive experienced crop rotation and was just curious about when the best time to hunt the corn would be. Is it worth any looking into during the early season. Season starts the 11th of Sept. The surrounding areas have corn as well. When I say hunt the corn Im not saying the edges I am reffering to the area. I do have one of the main water sources in the area. Thanks in advance for any advice.

Re: Early Season Corn Feilds?
I love corn fields. I would prefer to hunt a corn field vs. any other type of planting. Deer move freely from woods into a corn field. It is just an extension of the woods to them and I always see lots of early movement.
Walk the edges a few rows in and find where they are entering the field, play the wind and hang a stand and dont go back until opening day. Might need to bring a bug suit with you. This year is going to be a killer with mosquitos.

I went out glassing last night, and every deer I seen, came out of the cornfield in the last hour of light... They are bedding in the cornfields for sure by me... But we have a ton of mosquitoes right now...

Re: Early Season Corn Feilds?
I agree that corn is an extension of the woods, and I agree they bed in the cornfields. I myself, am going to be hunting an early season stand that I think will work as long as the corn is standing - so into November possibly. I think the tall corn, which has to be 8-10 feet tall now, is not only denser cover to hide in, it offers the rows for travel ease within the cover AND it's a food source... In addition to these great aspects of tall corn, to avoid the masquito massicure that seems to surround the fields, I found that walking through the corn rows helped a ton because I assume the masquito's struggle to fly through the obstical course of broad leaves at the speed you are walking. I have to assume that if I can find relief from the bugs in a corn field, so can the deer.

Re: Early Season Corn Feilds?
Every deer Ive been watching is coming out of the corn right now because the mosquitoes are so bad in the woods. Like others have said, find some fresh sign and get in there when you have a good wind.
