A legend passes away - Moment of Silence...

Unread postby Edcyclopedia » Thu Oct 10, 2013 8:13 am

Larry Benoit (the old tracker from New England - Vermont to be exact) and considered the best whitetail hunter in the world by many of the top hunting elite passed away 10/8.

He’s a legend amongst us deer hunting fools – I’m sure there be a real nice place on heavens wall for him!

The famous Vermont hunter Larry Benoit-- known to many as the white-tail king-- has died.

His family tells WCAX News he passed away Monday night after a long illness.

Some have called Benoit one of the best white-tailed deer hunters ever to call Vermont home, a passion he shared with his family.

Loved ones point to his success with the sport and his role in helping to raise nine kids as his biggest accomplishments.

Benoit was inducted into the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

He was 89.

Always hate when a legend passes away.

His tracking skills he passed on to others will no doubt live on forever.

A legend in every sense of the word- a true pioneer. I am saddened to hear of his passing.

A legend indeed, I enjoy the videos that Larry and his sons put together over the years. You can say whole heartedly that he passed on many lessons to his boys about the outdoors. That family can track some deer. They don't make Hunters like that anymore. RIP

Big Bucks The Benoit Way was the first whitetail book I ever looked at and it ignited a fire that still burns strong 25+ years later. RIP.

Tomorrow I'm gonna pull from my bookshelf Larry's book How To Bag The Biggest Buck Of Your Life and read it again in his honor.

Sad indeed - I love reading the books about Larry and his sons. I still remember as a kid reading his story Off The Norris Branch, when he shoots a buck of a lifetime before the big storm. Not only did he spend a night in the woods, he never could find the buck he left under the pine tree the following day from the bad storm. I will be pulling some of my books, tonight and doing a little reading.

I enjoyed some of his books, I read the first one he wrote back I think was in the 70's when it was published, and that is when I began to think "outside the box" when it came to hunting whitetails.

I've been fortunate to meet his boys at the local sportsman shows, all of them are cards too, just as Dad appeared in the DVD's!
When chatting they always referenced back to Dad - I noticed a very close knit family, indeed, right off the bat.
God Bless his family...

Bumped into Lane while hunting a Canadian border spot in NH around the turn of the Century.
I was glad to see a Benoit hitting the same woods as I, I'm sure he did better than I did also...
That day I recall imagining how many Big Bucks the family had taken, as a whole, and wished my Dad hunted, and could have taught me the way of the woods like Larry did...!

I figure he can now talk to my Dad in heaven and pass on a few good tips to send to me ;)

I found an original copy of "how to bag the biggest buck of your life" (the one with the black dust jacket) by larry at my grandfathers house when I was a youngster. It was one of the first whitetail hunting books I have read, I have read it several times since. It has a great spot in my collection. I am saddened to hear this.
