More snakes.

Unread postby jshorns » Sun Oct 06, 2013 10:58 pm

Sat. we walked about seven hours on a scouting trip to discover a different route into a potential hotspot deep in the swamp. We walked over, blazing a trail as we went, relocated a stand, then back out. Once in I came across 2 more rattle snake which soon became headless - that's 4 in the last few week. This new trail is basically on dry land and we found an old interior road that cuts across the swamp. This will shave 1/2 mile off the trip, cutting it down to 1.5 miles or so. They last 3-4 hundred yards are across a big mud flat but there are hundreds and hundreds of tracks. It's very remote and difficult top get to for the public land hunters and looks to be a refuge from the hunt clubs nearby - time will tell.

Loads of timber rattlers at one of my hill country spots. They love to lay out on the rocks and soak in the summer sun.

My neighbors have killed three copperheads in the last month around our houses and one on the street. I don't mind snakes but the copperheads are getting a little to close. Would not be a big deal but with all the kids playing outside it becomes a concern.

We've seen a lot of snakes this summer.

I'm killing more snakes then deer. I stepped on a moccasin last week and didn't even know it. My son was right behind me and pointed it out - I quickly dispatched it. That's 5 so far and it's still hot.

What are you using, a machete? I'm planning on hunting deep into a swamp wednesday or Thursday so I was wondering what do you do once it gets dark and they aren't as visible? Haha

Seen 2 walking in Sunday afternoon. Only chicken snakes but still..... snakes. Both were laying out of the wind in the sun next to the weeds.
