I watched the BEAST method work for me this afternoon!!!!

Unread postby backstraps » Fri Oct 04, 2013 12:39 pm

As some of you guys know, I just obtained permission to a piece of property that has some pretty good potential of me getting a shot at a buck "BEAST STYLE"

So let me begin saying, I have been a member on this great site since June of last year. I have read post everyday, searched back threads, asked so many questions, bugged Dan to death, as well as a couple others with numerous messages....TRYING to learn as much as I can.

Fast forward to this evening on the new property:

I cyber scouted this piece of land for several hours. Glassed several times until I felt comfortable of trying a sit.

This afternoon, I had a 3.5 year old 8 point, 17" wide maybe 120 inches walk EXACTLY out of where I assumed a buck was bedding. Once out of his bed, he munched down some green honey locust pods, very slowly made his way across in front of my setup at 13 yards browsing away. I didn't shoot him as he wasn't the one I was after. I never seen another buck this afternoon.

I planned my entrance and exit out to where I had VERY little intrusion. I just hope nothing cuts my scent trail during the night tonight. I am planning another sit tomorrow afternoon, and most likely will hunt the same area.

I just wanted to post an update of my progress for two reasons....

1. This is the very first time I applied the Beast method and had success!!! It feels as good as a kill to me right now.

2. If anyone reading this is a new member, that is new to this method of hunting it works!! It isn't like instant pudding and takes some dedication and planning. I had several instances where I was "close" last year.

I WANTED TO PRESONALLY THANK DAN & THE MEMBERS ON THIS SITE!

The hunt I did this evening was very gratifying. I am very thankful to all you guys to help me understand the method enough to at least be in the game. Now maybe over the next few years I can get where I can begin laying down some slobs!!!

Congrats on a great hunt... It ain't always about killing. 8-)
It sure feels great when you you watch a buck get right up out of the exact spot you expect him.

I agree with you. I actually think that is a greater success than getting lucky on a good buck. And when you get to doing that over and over again, even if you're mostly passing, it's such a profound feeling of accomplishment.

That's awesome backstraps! That 8 should be a good one for you to kill in the next year or two.

Thanks guys!!!

Dan, He was bedded less than 40 yards from where I was setup at. I would've never hunted like this before the BEAST!

You know to be perfectly honest, I wanted to kill him.

Monday morning at daybreak and Weds at 823 am the buck I am after was seen from 350 yards away.

I was worried shooting a deer and "scenting" the place up would ruin my chances at the
10 pointer. I am going to make a move closer to a couple more beds tomorrow afternoon...and see how it goes
and adjust plans from there!

Sweet... being mobile with your set-up is a big advantage. I agree that once you start thinking like a "Beast" when planning out your hunts it leaves a lot more options on the table. congrats on a successful set-up
