Ok I won't sugar coat it here it goes. Went on my first archery deer hunt yesterday. Right from the start I was scratching my head saying crap these aren't yotes where should I set up. Wind is out of southwest temp is 70's, going to rain later, Guys on the site say this, videos taught me that but I am in the field and kinda stuck on rookie stupid where to
start. So I dive in head first pack up and go in. Well first set up was no good due making rookie mistakes setting up my hang on etc. Plus I learn my equipment feels heavier in the woods compared to home. So I back out and decide Ill move to new spot and try to not repeat same mistakes and be quieter. So I move in set up which this time I successfully but SLOWLY got my hang on set up and I am sittin in the tree thinkin this is awesome. Well than it started raining which ok it won't last long and hopefully I will see deer as it lets up. Well it stops raining and no dice no deer its getting dark quick and time to get going. well lets just say I learned some lessons about taking down climbing sticks and hang on in the dark and the equipment is wet. I'll just say I am glad I am familiar with basic ropes and my tree strap /safety vest and linesman belt did there job. I made it out after getting help from my primary hunting partner. For which I told him and I am admitting I learned several lessons I won't repeat, I am getting lighter equipment and I am ready to go again. I am hooked and I haven't even earned my first yearling yet.

It takes time and practice, the more you do it the better you will get. Good job wearing the safety harness. By the end of the season you will have learned a lot if you are able to hunt often.

My first couple of hunts every year have me relearning everything as it seems the routine I had down the season before has completely been forgotten. Give yourself some extra time to set up and take your time doing so. Safety is number one priority. Good luck on your next hunt.
