I don't have much experience hunting cattails, but have a spot to hunt this year. There is in general a transition line between cattails and ag land. The cattails to the west and ag to the east. Currently it only gets hunted on a west wind (blowing out of cattails to ag). Any idea if buck movement from cattails to ag would be better with wind at their back, or if I set up for the just off wind?

I like hunting a cross wind... it is kinda predictable how they will use the wind to exit the marsh/cattails to enter ag... basically like they are scent checking the area before exiting cover
These are real life situation(s) with mature deer... if they know they are being hunted they will scent check or hook the ag before entering

Good illustration Bucky. I have observed the same. In an ideal situation this is how it should work just remember you have to know where you bedding is in order to set up properly

Exactly... if the bedding is different obviously the above illistrations don't make sense... but these are "real" examples of bucks I have hunted. One mature 5yr old got killed by a buddy on illistration #2

I have studied how deer enter fields from bedding for a while. I have noticed on one particular property the deer will enter the field with the wind to their back. Still trying to figure that one out...... I think they may be bedding close to the very edge of the field.

I see immature 1-3yrs do all kinds of crazy stuff in regards to fields and wind... but mature bucks 4yrs and older rarely do random things unless they are in the rut in my observations

I can't see your examples Bucky.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.
