peripheral vision

Unread postby Craaaig » Sun Sep 29, 2013 12:26 am

Do deer have peripheral vision? I probably could have just searched this but its good to know, yes or no. Humans have peripheral vision from being stalked by predators for Thousands of years. Just wondering if deer also have peripheral vision?

Nice add Bucky! Always assumed 180+, but never though 270. Amazing!

Their eyes are on the side of their head. They can see everything around them, except in back of them.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

That's why its so hard to make a move on them. If you can see anything but the back of there head they can pick off your movement.

X2

I read a study that said it's actually closer to 310 degrees. It's pretty darn good whatever it is! :o

Good topic. I always wondered that too. I usually set between 10-15 feet in a tree and have had deer walk beneath me and they never seen me. Sometimes by complete surprise, so it wasnt like I was motionless in anticipation for them. I always wondered since those encounters if a deer's vision is more focused at ground level as they scan ahead.
