One of THOSE nights
Had Dentist appointment yesterday afternoon, so after the appointment I rushed to a new spot hoping to sneak a sit in!.
The word “rushed”, and the feeling of being rushed should have been a good indicator as to how the hunt would go…
This spot is just off a very busy road, so I could hear crap and wasn’t very peaceful!!!
Anyways –
I walked in the woods only to find fresh tracks of a decent size deer, so I walked around a 50 yards circle of Oaks while trying to pick out a good tree for my ambush.
As usual the stinkin’ wind was blowing in 3-different directions and it was 5:40, so I said times a wasting, and selected a tree across the way.
Conveniently, on my way over to the selected tree I stepped on a Yellow Jacket nest and didn’t realize that they were Yellow Jackets; In my mind it was a couple of Deer Fly’s...
Well numerous bee stings to my head and ears while flailing about in the middle of my hunt spot, darting around like a rabid dog while shooing-away the mad Yellow Jackets!
That all eventually subsided and as I gazed around it looked like a couple of bucks were fighting from all my tracks in the leaves, so off I went to set my stand…
It was the first time I used this new Lone Wolf stand so it wasn’t very smooth going up (ugh), and when I finally got into my seat somehow I got the Gol dang bow rope caught in the bottom stick – Man-O-Man!
Back down, unhook the bow rope and back into the seat as sweat drips from my head and of course my ears really started to sting - Ouch.
I’m now sitting trying to bring peace back to my evening and talk myself off the edge of a cliff from flipping out;
Within a few minutes , one of the bees mustn’t have died and was caught in my collar so I hear a quick buzz then felt the stick right on my juggler vein – Mom-o-meas

Re: One of THOSE nights
Sounds like a rough sit but at least you were out there in the game.
I always look at non productive sits as I'm building up my hours and I'm that much closer to success.
Good luck, next time could be the perfect sit.

Now that is what memories are made of right there
A little pain and a memory you will laugh about when you are 80 years old.

Re: One of THOSE nights
That one qualifies for the funny hunting story thread! Sorry, but you painted a pretty good picture in my head, and I couldn't help but find some humor in it. I have had one of "THOSE" nights too.

Ed...... You never did say if you killed a buck or not?
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Had plenty of days like that Ed. In time hopefully you can look back and get a good laugh out of it!
