Creaking noise while drawing bow

Unread postby NCmedic » Wed Sep 25, 2013 3:23 pm

I noticed that when I draw my bow there is, or what seems to be, a loud creaking noise from my release strap stretching. I wasn't sure if this was normal but I was concerned with it spooking a deer while I prepared to shoot. Has anyone been busted like this? If so, are there releases that prevent this? Or am I just being sensitive to the noise and its really nothing worth worrying about? Lol. Thanks!

Velcro or buckle strap?

If there was any doubt in my mind I would get a new release. Not worth screwing up on a deer and would be money well spent to ease your mind. Details like that are huge.

Sometimes the strap cinching on the buckle can creak like that. A small dab of vegetable oil there may be enough to get rid of the sound. This is really common on leather straps until they break in.

Your not being sensitive at all. I had my tru-fire do that last year and I tried all different things to stop it. I ended up taking it to tru-fire right in fond du lac and they gave me a new strap.

Ill try dabbing some vegetable oil on there. Other than shooting, any other ways of breaking it in? I'd rather not buy a new release if I don't have to but I'd hate for it to cost me a deer

You can't have any noise that may cost you down the line. Do not hunt with it making noise.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I have a bow where the limb pockets creak in hot weather (not cold, opposite of what you would think) I took it apart and filled the limb pockets with grease, that did the trick.

As a tip - unless you are sure of the source of the noise you may need someone right next to you while you draw the bow a few times to pinpoint it.

The cable slide on my old pse would some times bind up if it was wet out. I rotated the bar a bit and it solved the issue. I would check this also.

I had a bit of noise coming from my bow. i took the quiver of and shot and the nois was still present. If you lightly tap on the riser and cams of you bow you can hear where the vibration is. In this case the bar that holds my string stop was loose. i tightened it up and now she is back to being quiet.
NEXT YEAR I' HOLDING OUT FOR A BIG ONE!!
