Hey y'all,
Figured since I just joined I would introduce myself a little bit.
I read about this forum on another one, and decided to check it out. Tons of good discussions and a lot of hunting methods that I already use.
I hunt KY and IN (some). I'm not a "big buck serial killer", but have been using LW stands, steps, gaffs, and what I call "preppred trees" for a few years. Furthermore, my last two bucks have come on techniques I found the terms from on here.
The first in late season over food (2012).
Here is the tree I killed him out of, I dubbed it "The Widow Maker"...I actually installed a life line but it was the one that worked.
This year I have taken this deer that I had been following via trail cam all summer. I killed him on Sept. 14 after following a creek then a drainage to avoid the bedding...took him on the way to bed in the AM.
Before pic:
These two deer have two things in common.
1) They utilized what I have learned from my weekend reading y'all call an "off wind".
2) A texting trail camera played an integral part in both hunts.
-The first hunt it showed me how the deer were only approaching the food when they thought the wind was in their favor. Basically, after a pressured season, their actions were in contrast of some of what I have read here. I will say my early season observation support they go where they want to go after they leave their wind.
-The second hunt utilized a drainage as a funnel (and previously mentioned approach). The NE wind skirted the edge of the field that the buck approached from. I also decided where to hunt based on process of elimintation from texting cameras to tell me where the bucks had or hadn't bedded the prior evening. No pics, I went to the stand over the 3rd or 4 beddings area (and the only one that the wind worked for).
Anyways, I agree w/ what a lot of people talk about on here and the work in half the fun. I hunt a lot of public land, a lot of time by john boat, and my success has really vamped up since I started increasing my post season scouting. I kill lots of does (at 5 so far this year), but I also hunt my bucks seriously in the two aforementioned states. I look forward to discussing and learning from y'all. Have a good one.

Good stuff Tyler. Love those crocs. Wear mine all the time.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: Introduction
Thanks guys...I think I'll like it here.
I haven't hit anything but the deer forum. I do duck hunt a few states a year but it is mostly out of convenience. I also like to squirrel hunt w/ a 22 and crow hunt in the late winter.
BTW the pink crocks came out of a beer drinking night w/ the guys in the off season...put my foot in my mouth. It wasn't the first or the last time.
