Rifles allowed statewide in WI starting November 1st
The use of rifles will be allowed statewide starting on Nov. 1, 2013 in time for this year’s 9-day firearm season. The Oct. 5-6 youth gun deer hunt will still be restricted to shotgun-only in those portions of the state that were previously shotgun-only (see page 23 of the 2013 deer regulations booklet). Hunters will need to check with the local municipality where they are planning to hunt to determine if local ordinances are in place that would restrict the use of rifles.

Cool.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Very bad for the areas that were shotgun only and producing big bucks because of it.Very bad for hunters in shotgun only cause land that used to take 3 to 4 guys to cover can now be covered by a single or a couple of hunters.Dont like it at all.

I'm with Goldtip on this. I would love to see it go the other way, Shotgun only statewode. But I'll admit it's for selfish reasons, I think more big bucks would make it through. Just my opinion and I don't have strong feelings either way.

I've been able to use one down in southern WI in the CWD zone for awhile. There is still land I hunt where the property owner won't allow it, so we shotgun it. Truth be told, I've killed more with the mossberg than with my Winchester model 70 .308 anyway. I don't mind it being statewide now.

Why is this cool? One reason iowa produces monster bucks is because of shotguns. Watch guys crank bucks off at long distances across iowas wide open fields and you wont think its such a great idea.

And most of them are probably shot where the landowners only allow shotguns so they actually have deer left...lol......

Re: Rifles allowed statewide in WI starting November 1st
Most of the hunters around here use shotgun and drive property with a long gun for back up if anything passes by. I don't think you'll see a change around here. In this CWD zone people kill anything and everything during gun season, and no matter what day. I wait, if I can, till 2nd Sunday for the brown is down rule. Sometimes weather changes that rule for me.

As if you didn't have enough competition in WI as it was. Sorry to hear this.
