Weekend hunt

Unread postby jshorns » Tue Sep 24, 2013 1:16 am

We (my oldest son and I) were out Sat. morning for our first public land hunt of the year. It's a great time to shoot some does and stock the freezer and by 9:30 we were dragging one out. That's the fun of pre-season scouting. We didn't know we were hunting this area and so we made a quick survey a month ago. We located an area in the creek bottom at the head of a small ditch of water and picked the tree. The deer ran up and he shot it as it stood in the exact spot we predicted a month ago. For us that's the fun of hunting, scouting and locating areas, slipping in weeks, months, even a year later and seeing the plan work out. It was an any deer hunt so to get the season started off we were willing to shoot the first thing that came along. Were headed off to more management areas wed. through the weekend. We will be looking for more does, the area we hunted last year was overrun and they have increased the bag limit. it's a great way to get tuned in for the big moment we all hope to have this fall. My tag for the area we hunted this weekend includes all the hogs you want and a turkey so I may go across the road tomorrow just for fun. We hope everyone has a safe and successful hunt!

Love it when a plan comes through.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I've been seeing deer after quick scouting sessions and even though my wife and I haven't killed one yet its still a great feeling! I can't wait to have that feeling where it all truly comes together. Congrats on a good hunt!
