I found this picture, which in my opinion really describes what the Military Crest of a hill is, and where we can look for buck beds in hill country..... You can see how a buck would have a great advantage of seeing us walk in from below, if that's where our access is from... Makes it pretty tough to sneak in on them, especially with the crunchy leaves in the fall time... You can also see how, if they are on that Military crest, they get the thermals from down below coming up at them, and also, they get the leeward wind from the other side of the hill.....
Hill country...buck beds....Military Crest?

Nice. I have never heard of that term. I think it's a simpler term to use to describe where bucks like to bed. I like it.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

I guess the place I heard it was, watching Jim Ward build those buck beds in his youtube video's... He uses the term " Military crest" quite often, so I looked it up. Makes good sense...

I have studied many maps that Dan has marked on the site for members. I know the 1/3rd from top is a general rule as far as the wind tunnel is concerned....however I have noticed when the "military crest" feature is visible on a topo, that's the line Dan typically notates his bed on the maps (if I am not mistaken)

Yes, the military crest....I always thought "The high edge" or high side of negative terrain got the point across better and made clearer. Maybe not.
