My oldest daughter was accepted into the first time hunter program at Sandhill. I grew up not more than 5 miles from there. We are going up on Saturday to take the mandatory class and find out where she is hunitng. Hoping for some input from others as to where to hunt and how. I will post further when we find out what section she can hunt. Not looing to kill a trophy, but to get her first deer. Very excited for her.

Re: Deer Hunt at Sandhill Wildlife Refuge
I got to hunt there when I first moved here. We had to shoot two does before we could shoot a buck. I set up on edges of marsh and killed two mature does and seen 3 bucks I think. One real tall 8 pt out in the marsh dogging a doe. Two of my friends left early Sunday cause they didn't have there two does. One stayed with me to sit the afternoon with me. It was cold and rainy and I started getting down early and a decent buck snuck by me. Could have "tagged" out if I stuck it out. Had a great time.

Re: Deer Hunt at Sandhill Wildlife Refuge
The actual hunt is on October 26. We will find out where we are hunting and what the bag (buck/doe/earn-a-buck) will be tomorrow when we take the class. I have been on a doe hunt there, but i was with a large group of people. That made things much easier because the deer were on the move or being moved. We'll see what happens.
