Skinning a deer without hanging it?
So my new garage is only a little over 7 feet high, not high enough to really hang a deer to skin it. I know guys out west use the "gutless method" of skinning game, but most likely my deer will already be gutted. I just need to skin them. Has anyone ever done it on the ground? Do you slice down the back and take the backstraps off, then keep working back down towards the belly? or start at the legs and work up?

Does your vehicle have a receiver hitch? If so I have something I am making that might work for you too. If you didn't want to build that and had access to another vehicle or something heavy that wont move, you could start the skinning around the legs and neck and pull with the other vehicle and it should work slick, I have seen that done with a 4 wheeler a lot. It sounds like we have similar situations, my townhouse has no trees suitable to hang a deer in and the garage is not high enough, so we are making a portable skinning/hanging rack that skins the deer as you pull it up with the winch.

Throw the deer on a table and the gutless method will work fine even if the deer is gutted.
Start down the center of the neck down through to the tail and work from there. Google gutless method and it will be the same for the most part.
I do one side at a time-skin one side, take strap and quarters, flip, skin, take strap and quarters. Not as easy as hanging it but it will get the job done.

Here's the method I use. It's the same gutless or gutted.

If you have an air compressor and a blow gun you can make a small slit in the hide and but the nozzle of the blow gun in the slice and use air to skin the animal, you should be able to literally blow the hide off the deer.

I do pretty much like Chris does in his video. I bone it all out and pack out.

All great help. Thanks. I just found out it looks like there's a different solution to the problem. My dad ordered one of those portable game hangers that I can set up in my yard. Guess that works too.

Eye bolt in the ceiling. Cut off the rear legs at the joint pull him up to the top with a gambrel and skin him. I have skinned a few in a 7 feet ceiling.
