Finally moving back into the sticks!!

Unread postby admiral04 » Tue Aug 20, 2013 11:08 am

Finally, after a long search we are buying a house back out in the sticks. We only got 20 acres with the house but there thousands of acres surrounding us that I can hunt. Just thought id post aerials/topos of the area and get everyones thoughts of it. Please tell me what you think as far as possible bedding or travels routes, how youd hunt it or suggestions on what you would do to get the deer to stay there or make bedding. My thoughts were to make a clearcut thicket on one of the points and possibly create some bedding. Aside from the yard my 20 acres is all wooded. My land is circled in blue but feel free to tell me your thoughts on the entire area. Thnx! Image Image Image Image

Looks good to me.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

X2! Your definitely in hill country. Looks like some good public land nearby too.

Well I'm super jealous.

I would do exactly what you mentioned. Thicken up a few bedding areas. Hunt the public and leave your land as a little sanctuary/honey hole for gun season. My uncle has a farm in PA that never gets hunted during archery, by gun season the bucks are stacked up in there from all the surrounding bow pressure, works out great for him.

Also I would think of a small late season food plot like radishes or w/e...

X2 what Palmetto said. I would make cover and up front closer to ur house i would do plots and a pond and make it sacred. I would only hunt it on perfect conditions maybe after a couple yrs of doing it. Monitor it with trail cams in the food plots and pond only. Sounds exciting and fun. Congrats on the baby and X2 on the lateseason radish plot.
