What are your plans for opener?
Season starts in about a month, for some at the end of the month. What are your plans? Where you hunting, what targets will you target? Shooting bucks off the bat or just shooting does for the early season? I plan on hunting some public land with my brothers out west. My plans are to get on a buck in the early weeks of September.

I'll be perched in a tree near a buck bed, depends on the wind and last week or two glassing on which bed I pick.

A lot depends on the glassing and cameras going into the week. I know where the beds are in my area. Just need the right wind. I've been saving kitchen passes since last season closed. Excited indeed

I have a few beds that I'll be choosing from depending on wind. I'm already excited and counting down. I'm not sure of the size of the bucks as I didn't run a camera or go back in all Summer. I saw two last year that I know didn't get shot.

Re: What are your plans for opener?
Went for a quick drive tonight. It rained earlier around 6-7 PM. Figured the deer would move after to the bean and alf-alfa fields. They did. Seen a few small bucks and many does. Kind of disappointed in what I have on trail cam and what I have seen glassing so far. I have another ambush spot that may pay off if I see what I need to see mid september.

Re: What are your plans for opener?
Will be killing a buck opening evening around 6:00 just at the edge of his staging area. OK, I might be dreaming! I have not had the opportunity to shine that area (2.5 hrs away) or check my only trail cam on the property to see if there are any target bucks remaining. From what I found for sign in beds during Spring scouting I am fairly confident at least one mature buck made it thru the season.
Truthfully, it does not matter to me as I am just looking forward to spending some quality time in the woods at this time.

Re: What are your plans for opener?
My plan for opening day is the same as it is every year.........kill a slob buck.
Problem is that plan never works out!
I have a spot planned for every wind with beds and enough intel to have a reasonable chance of seeing a good buck. What I do with that opportunity is up to me and hoping everything comes together. It's about time I release an arrow. Been way too long!

Re: What are your plans for opener?
I plan on glasing a few areas the week before where i know there are some bucks and hopefully i will see some close to areas i scouted this spring. This fall in general i am going to scout until i have reason to believe there is a buck closeby and then hunt. It helps that i have lower standards than most but any buck 2.5 years and older will do. Also might work on killing a doe on a weeknight.

I plan to be hunting on some public and I have a buck that has potential to be a good one. It's still a little early we will see what the cam says and go from there. Bow season is right around the corner.

They voted the raise a while ago....
Congress has pushed the fiscal cliff to the brink and has been the least productive since at least the 1940s. No matter, lawmakers will get a pay raise in 2013, reports The Weekly Standard.
The annual salary of members of Congress will rise from $174,000 to 174,900. Leadership in Congress, including the speaker of the House and Senate majority leader, will likewise get an increase.
Under current federal law lawmakers' pay automatically rises unless they specifically vote to deny themselves a raise - which this year they didn't. The $900-a-year raise is in line with what other federal workers will get in the coming year. That's because President Barack Obama recently issued an executive order to end the pay freeze on federal employees, in effect giving some federal workers a
