I am trying to learn bow hunting. I've only rifle-hunted to date. After tons of research, I am happy with all the equipment and accessories I purchased to start.
What is giving me a headache is trying to figure out how long to cut the arrows. Also, who cuts arrows for you? Cabelas? I don't want to purchase my own arrow saw.

Re: Learning Bow Hunting
Find you a pro shop close that sales bows to help you get setup. Then practice and more practice.
I'm reason they call it hunting and not shooting.

Any archery shop in your area can measure and cut your arrows for you. Take your bow with you and they will have you nock and draw with a full length arrow...they will mark it and cut your arrows to size for you and install the inserts.

Re: Learning Bow Hunting
I've been bow hunting for 20+ years and I still consider myself learning...lol. Any pro shop that sell bows should have all the equipment to get you set up.

Re: Learning Bow Hunting
Like the others stated a local pro shop is where to get them cut.
Take your time and be patient, expect to make bad shots and lots of mistakes, it's called a learning curve. Real world bow hunting ain't nothin like the garbage shows on tv... Most of all have fun with it!!!

Ignore most of what you see on TV, that will put you well ahead of the game when you realize those shows are not realistic and highly influenced by money.

Don't know if your close to Schaeffer Archery, I think they are in Burnsville. They manufacture some stuff but they are a pro shop as well.

Re: Learning Bow Hunting
The first time I would let a pro set everything up for you but pay attention closely and learn if you can because you may want to do it all on your own eventually. It's all pretty simple and good to be self sufficient by doing it yourself and not depending on someone else to set your equipment up.This can save a hunt if you are ever in a remote area with no pro shop around.
If you have any other questions to get started bowhunting feel free to ask and we will be glad to help you out. The only dumb question is the one you don't ask.

The best part about learning bowhunting is that you never learn everything!

Re: Learning Bow Hunting
It's a learning cycle for sure, plus there are tons of gadgets out there. For pure whitetails keep it as simple as possible. Whisker biscuit rest and one pin, maybe two. I shot a 1 pin sighted in at 25 yards for 10 plus years, just shot for the heart while in our stand. I can't Rember but the average shot distance on p&y deer was 17 yards.
Don't get wrapped up in te speed game, cause at 20 yards it dont matter.
