I have got to learn the art of scouting. It just stinks since some places I want to go I need someone with me in case something happens and I get stuck.

On that note, is it too late to do any good scouting right now?

It's a great time to do some glassing.

I don't know how many times I have read it or how many times I will read it in the future but I will have never read it too many times...

Deerslayer,

Unfortunately the area where I would go scouting is not conducive for glassing. It is in the forest areas so I would have to look for tracks, eaten branches (of whatever they eat) etc. Since I am not sure really what to be looking for I could roll right over it.

I tried to go do some food plot stuff yesterday and also to go set out a deer block and camera. Even with the scooter I could not get through the old railroad bed since it was too deep in mud and the other area was blocked by a stonewall. Needless to say yesterday was a huge bummer for me and sometimes I wonder how I can even get half of what is needed to hunt properly done. Just having a pity party for myself right now.

Sorry for the digression of the OP but since the last words of the article were to scout, scout, scout.

Great read!!! For years it seems that I've always heard "Never bust deer out of a spot" but really that's exactly what you should do if you wanna read the property.

About midway through the interview, Andrae says that he was getting pics of a big buck hitting a scrape from 10am-2pm but he knew that hunting it was a waste of time but he doesn't say why.

Anyone have an idea why he wouldnt hunt that if he knew when the buck was coming in?

I think it was the other way around 10 pm to 2am so he didnt hunt it because he knew the buck wasnt spending any time on the property during daylight

If i remeber It was due to the night time pic, camera location and the time frames he would get the pics. He felt it would never show in daylight for a ambush. It was on a video or whitetail addictions.

Ahh, I must have mis-read it. Thanks for the clarification. That makes sense now that he wouldn't waste time hunting a spot that wasn't producing a daylight pic.

It can only be a "booner" if its entered in the books... Most of his are not. I am sure he has a dozen or more THAT WOULD MAKE IT. And a lot of other that just miss.
