Who is shooting?
Lets not consider the size of the rack.........just the angle.
I marked where I am putting my arrow.

Re: Who is shooting?
Zap...To each his own, but I would pass this shot angle myself if your talking bow hunting? With a gun it's a no brainer. If this is a buck that I've put many hours or years of research into I would pass and try him another day. Too much can go wrong on this angle with an arrow. M.P.

Re: Who is shooting?
I would have to say No also.... One of my neighbors where I hunt took this very shot about 5 years ago. The arrow stuck into the briscuit in the front and I don't think it penetrated 2 inches, the deer ran 20 yards, the arrow flew out, and the deer leaped and bound away, only to never be seen again...
I have to admit tho, if it would be the biggest buck you have ever seen in your lifetime, it would be very hard to let go, but in my opion it would be the right choice...

No shot for me!! I just never practice a shot like that, so I would never try it.

Your asking for trouble with a shot like that with a bow.

I don't take quartering to shots anymore on deer, too much to go awry.

Re: Who is shooting?
Tuff one, I've done this shot with success, passed this shot and got a better angle with success and also was with a buddy that pulled it off on a bull elk so I know it's possible. It's also a set-up for failure... One thing that always sticks out in my mind is "You'll never get 100% of what you don't shoot at" Is that how it goes Dan? Anywho, I'd probably take it if I was really sure the buck wouldn't give me something better and if I felt I'd never get another crack at this animal, such as a public land rut hunt.

I'm so happy this was brought up, been thinking about it awhile..... Is there any good way to take a quartering to shot? What if that's THE way and THE only way that you can set up? With a trail that is quartering to I mean?

At that angle, poor, poor shot for bow. A few people get lucky, but, most who take that shot don't get that lucky.

At times you can take quartering too shots, just not extreme quartering too shots like this. Like others have said, it's possible but very risky. I would say if you can't get a better shot you better let him walk. That being said, I'll probably be the one to take a shot like this on a big buck this fall

I'm with Marty. I'm putting my arrow into that X. That's what I practice all year for. At 20 yards that should be a chip shot. It's not ideal, but if that's what I get, I'm going for it, with confidence.
A buck will see you three times, and hear you twice, but he's only gonna smell you once.

Re: Who is shooting?
Too each their own, I dont see a problem with that shot.
There is a 5 inch spot that gets two lungs and maybe liver.
