Looking for new broadhead
Im looking for a new broadhead to use. In the past I have used Grim Reapers and have used Rage the past few years. The Rage has done OK. Sometimes amazing on the broadside shots. However in the real world a perfect broadside shot is not what you get. I have heard from friends that the rage doesnt do that great on quartering shots.
So....I am changing broadheads.
Im looking for a good fixed blade with decent diameter yet still packs a punch. I also want a consistent pattern. I have heard to try Muzzy and Thunderhead. I figured this would be a great place to ask on what works for you. Any suggestions? Thanks BHBH.

Re: Looking for new broadhead
they all work if we do our job. I have never had an issue with any head I have used. I have killed more deer with muzzy than any other head. I have used thunderhead, g5 montec, g5 striker (currently using cause they are super sharp), and also used rage.

Muzzy or, my new favorite - Tru Fire broadeads. Fixed blade, and shoots just like a field tip.

Re: Looking for new broadhead
The best broadhead I have ever used was a slick trick magnum in 100 grains. They are seriously scalpel sharp. I have shot 5 deer with them, 2 died within 40 yards in sight, one was 40 yards and just out of sight, another 75 with a high lung hit and the worst was 100 yards on a gut shot doe that I did recover the next morning. They seem to cut more than the advertised cut, I don't know if its is because of the sharpness or what but they are a wicked little head, and I do not have to adjust my pins out to 40 yards, they fly just like a field point. I am 100% satisfied with them, and compared to a lot of heads they are usually a little cheaper (usually around 25-28 for 3).

Re: Looking for new broadhead
The biggest thing about broadheads is accuracy. The smaller low profile fixed heads really are the way to go. All broadheads kill, getting them into the animal is the real issue.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

The absolute height of a quality steel ferrule matched with extremely sharp stainless steel blades (higher grade than almost all competitors but maybe German Kinetics) would be...
Slick Tricks:

The quality on these heads at $9 per head is higher than the competitor's heads at $13 per head.

Re: Looking for new broadhead
There are a number of accurate, rugged heads out there. Muzzies, slick tricks are both good bargains. Beware of muzzy 4-blade heads they seem to be more finicky about your bow being tuned.
Keep in mind all else being equal, a lower cutting angle broad head (closer to the ideal 1:3 height to length) always penetrates better than one with the high cutting angle that has become popular with some newer models. For typical shots at deer the difference is not a big issue but for other things it can be.

I'll take your leftover Grim Reapers. Best thing I've ever shot.

X2
I never lost a deer shooting a Muzzy. Can't say the same for mechanical heads! That pretty much sums it up for me!
