If you were to do a public land do it yourself hunt where wo
I started working in the gas and oil field right at the end of last season and this year I won't have a lot of time to hunt maybe only a day or two per month except for the last week of October and the first week of November because I will be using my pro days. So my question is this where would you go any state with a tag over the counter situation. I can't figure out where I wanna go but I allready have a couple states in mind so if anybody has any tips of really appreciate them

I would either hunt S.Western Wisconsin or ILLINOIS... I like the Edgar allen panther creek public area in Illinois, but I think non-residents have to apply for rut hunting there. Wisconsin is over the counter and some areas have no limits on how many bucks you can shoot and tags are much cheaper.

Give me a ring.
You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.

OTC as far as I know, ohio, indiana, kentucky, missouri, nebraksa, oklahoma (Archery). Kansas will have left over go on sale in a week or so, eastern half of the state. Not sure if Illinois does the left over thing.

Wisconsin or Missouri would be good choices. Minnesota or Illinois would also be worth looking at. Kind of keeping you closer to home.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I think Missouri is very underated for archery.

Southern Kentucky, there is some nice landlocked state land right along the Cumberland river. Bring a boat, I've seen some deer from this area and are quite impressive!! I might head there this year just all depends on how much my Michigan bear hunt costs and if I can get the time off from work good luck hunting.

Shawnee National Forest in S. Illinois is a great spot. 1/4 of a Million acres to choose from plus a lot of other smaller state parks. I belong to another forum where a guy is a big photographer. He really concentrates a lot on public land photos down there and the bucks he captures are amazing.
Wisconsin and Missouri are really good to and it makes it a little better because the non-resident tags are a lot cheaper than Illinois.

I shouldn't answer because I have not looked enough to know what is over the counter or not, but the states I intend to DIY public hunt in the next several years are North and South Dakota, Kansas and Oklahoma.
