North American Whitetail Magazine
Im thinking about getting a subscription for $15 for a year to North American Whitetail. Not sure yet.
What are your thoughts on the magazine and most importantly do you think the tactics and advice work for the average hunter? Basically what I am saying is....Is there much to learn from this magazine or is there a better one to subscribe too? $15 a year just caught my eye. Another one I like is Deer and Deer Hunting magazine.

Re: North American Whitetail Magazine
For how to tactics and knowledge of Whitetail Deer I would suggest D&DH. NAW is basically hunters stories of big bucks. Not much tactical IMO. Just my .02....

Well I used to subscribe to NAW magazine a few years ago but I don't now to me the magazine is all about advertisizng and hunting with outfitters and guys who have tons of land to hunt on not a lot for your average guy.

I would save your money. Magazines contain 80 - 90 percent advertisements. Just post your questions on the hunting beast. Someone will respond.

Re: North American Whitetail Magazine
In my opinion that is the WORST magazine on hunting, it is basically the industry standard of hunting only worse. The tactics there only work for huge controlled access lands or for outfitters yet they play it off like it will work on 10 acres. I subscribed for a year and only read 3 or 4 of them and pitched the rest as they came, they are that bad. I wouldn't get it if it was free.

I just bought one of the magazines because it had the story of a giant nontypical killed in Houston County, MN I wanted to read. The sad part and irritating part was that through the guys story he kept saying the name of brands of equipment that he used to the point it was VERY obvious their was an incentive for him to do that. He dedicated 2 paragraphs to "NOSE JAMMER" and said that he no longer worries about his scent control he just JAMS THEIR NOSE.
I seriously have never witnessed such a thing in my life in a magazine article. The only thing I liked was articles about foodplots but to be honest it was kind of elementary for me.

I agree. Great magazine if you just want to see pics and read stories about huge bucks but very little on tactics that the average person can use to kill them. What you can get here for free is way beyond any magazine out there.

Re: North American Whitetail Magazine
I know Jeff from that article and he does use nose jammer. I do agree the article pushed it hard. That really doesn't detract from the fact that he shot a monster on land he got permission to hunt a few years ago. He is a smart and very knowledgeable hunter who has shot his fair share of nice bucks.
As far as the magazine goes it is really all about advertising and personal stories about bucks people shot...nothing groundbreaking.

I don't buy it too often, but i enjoy reading the stories of big bucks killed. It wouldn't be something I would read to gain any kind of hunting knowledge.

Quality Whitetails for QDM, plotting info, and science-based articles.
D&DH for biology, some hunting tactics (not groundbreaking), and stories
Bow & Arrow Hunting for the technical archery side and some good tactic (for mags) articles. It is not whitetail specific, but it's the best archery mag by far imo.
Those really are the three national rags to buy. Statewise, Outdoor News if you have one is a decent choice.

I pretty much stopped all my subscriptions when I joined the beast, D&DH might have one or two worth reading every now and then but they are mostly garbage compared to the info you find here.

Re: North American Whitetail Magazine
I subscribed two months ago. I have yet to see an issue.
At the same time I subscribed to Wisconsin Outdoorsman. Two days ago I got a "renew" notice. Yesterday I got my first issue.
I realize it's not the fault of the magazine,it's the subscription service. I spoke with a woman there today. She said there is no record of my subscription to N.A.W.,although they cashed my check. She said she's "sorry" about W.S,would I like her to check on my subscription status?....That,of course, was after she asked me to please not use profanity.
No,don' t bother....I rephrased my statement and said that her employer was dishonest. "Is that better?"...Yes... I had a feeling when I fell for the $12 (or whatever. cheap, anyway) rate that there was something wrong. I'll do as I've done for years - if I see an issue at the store I want,I'll buy it. I'd rather pay $5/issue than get scammed by some "subscription service" based in FL.

Magazines suck anymore, I don't waste my money. I can find better information, without all the advertising fluff, online.
If you want to simply see big buck profiles and stories look into Big Buck magazine, that's straight up horn porn and actually fun to look at.
