When do deer typically return from yarding up?

I haven't seen any deer yet. Last time I went out scouting the snow in Minnesota was still pretty deep, and I only saw one set of tracks.

When do the deer typically return from their winter homes?

Depends on the severity of the winter and the depth of snow. Lots of snow in Northern WI yet! I'm up at the cabin right now. Based on what I see here and the extended weather forecast I'd say a couple weeks yet.

Food source dictates where the deer yard up. If you have no food source the deer won't return until there is.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

They will break off yarding also when the first tiny patches of field melt off . I dont know how they know but they are on it quick. Seems to me that a larger group will break into smaller groups and hit these open patches. Almost like a transition from winter yarding to restablishing home areas.
I would say another 1 1/2 weeks maybe.

In a super pressured swamp. I met one doe eye to eye. Then 19 more deer ran bye. They are still herded up here.

I was on a 150 acre lake yesterday. Midday...First saw a group of 5 on the ice, then a group of 7 crossed the lake. The second group stopped and watched us for a while but left when it was obvious we were catching nothing but dinks.
