Frost seeding?
Has anybody done this with good results and what did you plant. Was thinking about doing a half acre with clover and chicory in a week or two and let the snow soak it in.

Re: Frost seeding?
Yes it works and nows the time to do it. I have had a great succes with annuals such as clover and chicory, as long as you have prepped the surface with roundup etc and can get good dirt to seed contact.

Gogebic do you seed when there is snow.I heard it works really well when there is snow on the ground helps soak seed in.

Re: Frost seeding?
Too much snow and you run the risk of a thaw that carries the seed away.
For my area, it's getting a little late for frost seeding. It appears you are in Michigan and should still be good.

Yes I have before, with snow on the ground makes it easier to see your seeding rate. Untouchables is right though if there is too much snow runoff could affect seed placement.

Re: Frost seeding?
I also seed a little heavier while frost seeding, key is freezing and thawing working that seed in which you probably already know.

Re: Frost seeding?
I usually frost seed over a few inches of snow as long as there is not a hard crust on top. Other wise the seed bounces around and I don't always get even coverage. I don't seed any heavier when frost seeding, but I often have the best results frost seeding. I always try to broadcast the seed just before a snow if possible to hide it from the birds. If I can't do that I will at least try to do it on a sunny warm day so the seed will absorb the sunlight, warm up and sink into the soft snow.
