Points in IA non resident

Unread postby Hodag Hunter » Fri Mar 08, 2013 12:00 pm

I have two points and this May will be applying for the 3rd......is this a cinch for bowhunting 2013 fall or what are the odds?

Trying to make plans for scouting, fall trips and sweeting up the wife. ;)

I think it depends on the zone you are applying for. I think most zones 3 is good to go.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

I better start applying for points, I would love to go on a DIY public hunt down there soon.

That sounds right to me.

Last year I had 2 pref. points and did not draw in zone 9 archery. With 3 pref points this year I hope to draw.

What zone(s) would you guys put in for?
Especially the IA guys or the veteran IA hunters...

If you are coming here to hunt public, I would hunt Southern Iowa or Northeast Iowa (Allamakee County). A lot of the public land is better than other states, but there are some properties that are great.

I've got enough points to draw as well. Just don't have anywhere to hunt. Might try public.
