Re: dead found bucks
I really started getting serious about scouting three years ago. Since then, I have found many dead bucks. Here are the biggest ones:
150" ten point I found last spring. He was a at least two years dead when I found him. Lots of mass on his typical frame.
Another 150" ten point I found late last spring. Not much mass, but great length and spread.
Here is a 140" ten point that I found a few years ago turkey hunting. Coyotes had eaten the straps and rumps, but the rest of him was in decent shape. He had a small body / tiny feet and appeared to be a 2 y/o. Great tine length and likely would have been a huge buck as he matured into his rack.
Lastly, is a 135" eleven point that I found in the phragmites a week after shooting him with my rifle.
I have many other young, smaller 8's and 6's.

Similar typical racks, but the first was very heavy and did not have the beam/tine length or spread of the second buck. They were found about 70 miles apart (as the crow flies). The third buck was found in northern Nebraska along the Niobrara (200 miles north). That area has some of the best views Nebraska has to offer.

Not to be a party pooper, but check your local game laws. In Michigan it is illegal to pick up antlers that are still attached to the skull without contacting the DNR for a permit. The barber told me the local CO was nailing people for this, seeing pics posted on facebook and other sites. Many areas had EHD this year, so lots of people finding them.

That's what I was thinking also, then I looked at the nose bones and had to take a second look. Very, very similar. Very cool.

Re: dead found bucks
I find one dead head a year but they're always 1.5 year old basket 8s that the neighbors wound. I get that some people are not into trophy hunting and dont fault them for that but it drives me crazy when they are constantly wounding small bucks. Most of the young bucks around us are dumb and can be shot at will all season long- why risk a bad shot!?!
OK, soap box over. Some impressive animals above- shame to see them go that way!
