Favorite Deer Hunting Books?

Unread postby BCD » Tue Feb 19, 2013 8:45 am

Please share your favorite hunting books. I'm really looking for something based more on learning tactics, locating funnels, map-reading, etc. than focused on stories.

Thank you

I think this is a good start to what you are looking for

MAPPING TROPHY BUCKS----BRAD HERNDON

Agreed. You have watched both of Dans DVDs right? "Marsh Bucks" and "Hill Country Bucks"

X3

Thats one of the better deer hunting books I have read. Its seems a lot of books from the "experts" are vague and very basic strategies used in the rut mostly.

I would reccomend Greg Miller. His Tv show is good for being a celebrity and his book was good as well.

Chris Eberhart has some really great books. He works in more realistic conditions than a lot of other writers. Greg Miller books are alright but very simplified. I think I would like them better if I had never watched his show.

Does Mapping Trophy bucks have much value for a non-hill hunter? Not many hills in the area I hunt.

My all-time faves:

Brad Herndon's, Bill Vale's and Jeff Murray's MOONSTRUCK.

You'll come to find out that you likely won't agree 100% with an author's book content, and that's surely the case for me.

That said, I really like the Eberhart books. I found them an easy read that held quality content. I gleaned what I believed would work for my system. I do like the way some of the books were set up (calendar year) for the linear steps hunters take.

Herndon's book is useful too. I hunt flat land 90% of the time, but still I think it helps flatlanders think critically.

Haven't gotten around to Vale's book...mostly because I find it insanely expensive as compared to others.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have most of them except for Worthington, Morris, and Vale. I've heard very good things about the Vale book. I also have all of Eberharts DVD's and just purchased the 2 Hunting Beast DVD's. Please keep those suggestions coming.

Thank you!
