Has this ever happened to you?

Unread postby admiral04 » Sun Feb 17, 2013 1:53 pm

I went out today to checkup on my favorite hunting spot. Has always been a great place to hunt and was on public land. Grabbed my hiking partner(my 6 yr old boxer), jumped in the truck and headed out only to roll up to my parking place and find all the land had brand new pretty yellow posted signs. Apparently the timber company leased it out. I called the number to get permission and the guy didnt just say no but was rude about it. I was able to talk him into letting me go into get my stands but that was it. Ive been bummed all day. All that hardwork down the drain and worse yet now i lost one of my "go to" spots for the rut. Just thought id share the bad news and see if this has ever happened to any of you.

That stinks, but better now than a week before the season starts, still plenty of time to find new and better areas. Scout with a vengeance and you will be successful!

Yes, many times. I hated it when it happened but it turned out to be a blessing. I learned to keep finding new spots and learning to read new lands. In the long run it made me a lot better hunter. It always stinks when you lose a good spot though.

Lost a lot of spots over the years.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Public land hunters need to always be looking for new areas, that's part of the fun.

Yupp, several times.

Losing permission on a good location sucks.

One of the largest chunks of public land in the top county in my state got sold to a private investor who clearcut the entire place(>30k acres) to make cow pasture and a huge slaughter factory...
No Shortcuts. No Excuses. No Regrets.
Everybody's selling dreams. I'm too cheap to buy one.
