That's a common statement here. I don't know about you guys, but the "time is right" everytime I'm not working. That could be weeks straight that I save for deer hunting. No way I'm sitting around cause the time isn't right.

There is always a spot somewhere, where the time is right.
x2 it's always 5:00 somewhere!

I can only think of one to add ..... no excuses. Guys like Dan and Spy save their time and money and get it done year in and year out regardless of other circumstances. That's very impressive to me.

I have often said throughout my hunting life that the two most important factors for taking a mature animal are intertwined.

They are location and entrance/exit.

You cannot take a mature animal unless one is there and you cannot get to him unless you have a solid entrance/exit into that area.

Interestingly enough.. all those other details of deer behavior.. scouting.. stand placement are nearly always directly related to this fact.

Confidence!! Shine, personal eyewitness observation, trail cam photos. Coupled with big tracks, rubs, scrapes, beds, last years sheds, etc.

Now you know he is there and you have the patience to sit hours in a stand. The rest is doing your homework. The biggest thing is don't waste your time on a whim or because it looks like it should hold a monster.

50 yard strategy is also big. Find a buck on camera, move the camera 50 yards down the trail in the direction he was coming from. Wait 2 weeks and do it again. If he keeps showing up on camera, you know your getting closer to his bed, and if not your definitely on one of his travel corridors.
Be in the woods as often as you can....and as long as you can!
