its a "sculpture". Everyone should have a World Record hanging on the their wall. Never taped it after I finished it. Might be pushing 225"?

I've shot a bunch of "lesser" bucks. I need to find some of old ones that need scanned.

Here is my first bow kill, 1996 I believe.

I hurt my neck a week before I left for a hunt in Texas with some buddies, I couldn't draw my bow, so this is my only crossbow kill.

And this buck would have been a good one but was all busted up.

Is that a Martin Speed Flight bow? I had the same one in the late 90s... actually, it is still in my basement and I occasionally take it out and shoot it for fun. Love that bow!

Edit: As I look at it a bit closer the camo pattern seems a little different than what I thought.

No, it was a Clearwater Power Mag, I killed a bunch of deer with that old bow. Dual hatchet cams, vibrations in the grip like ya had ahold of 110v for a second, I shot easton xx75 2213's and 100 gr muzzy's.

Have killed many that qualify as “lesser” bucks(in fact, I’m sure all of my MS ones could to Midwest guys ha). Posted a couple several years ago. Here’s a few more lesser ones I have pics of on my phone.

Cool thread wish I could still view all the pics. A lot of non lesser bucks posted in my opinion.
A lot of deer people around here would be on a 3 day bender in celebration after killing

In recent yrs I shot this 7 pt. I had read or listened to some things on tracking deer in snow. I had only tried it maybe twice before and it was very casual or half hearted short walk type thing. This time there was a NE wind and a heavy snow coming down. The old guy was up visiting for thanksgiving and I had one good easy spot where he could sit in a NE wind. I wasn’t sure what I was going to do. He was insisting I go hunt and he would just hang out. He laughed at me when I told him I was going to go see if I could cut a track around this bedding area 1 mile away. I had only cyberscouted this area for the most part.

I parked about 1 mile south of where I really anticipated the sign and worked my way through the woods/swamp north. It was very windy, snowy, and big loads of snow crashed off the spruce brows left and right. The type of day most people sit by the fire but being out in The elements doing what you love just makes the testosterone flow. You feel like a man maybe even a beast.

I worked my way north and cut a few sets of tracks, all for I presumed maybe a small buck. Almost 3/4 mile in and 3/4 way to my presumed bedding area I stopped and sat on a log. Pulled off my wool socks and stuffed em in my pocket because I was beginning to sweat too much. I got up and walked maybe 30 yds and in all the snow crashing I heard one that sounded different. Deer! I peeled the neoprene sock off my scope and had it to my eye
Lickity split. This was terrain where a clear shot wasn’t likely passed 40 yds. I picked out his rack through a hole in the timber, I followed and the next hole he hit I let one fly. He went down. It wasn’t a very good shot as I likely hit some brush so I ran up to clear view and pumped another one in him.

When I walked up close I realized this was a buck I would have passed from my tree. He was smaller than any I’ve shot since probably 2005 but I was still happy and excited.

The hunt offered a new thrill, something I hadn’t experienced before. I sat with my hand on that deer for a while and just took it all in. The old guy wouldn’t believe it. Beginners luck probably.. at any rate ‘‘twas a great day

Then I had to get him out! Lucky I had just got on x so I marked em and headed due west toward the road. What would you know I hit a logging trail 150 yds away. So instead of returning for my pack And knife I returned for my quad.

I think these are all pretty much trophies for everyone who shot them.

Still, some of them are NOT small.

I really enjoyed this thread! I’ve killed piles of lesser deer. At the time they weren’t lesser and gave me the same excitement a big buck does today. I spent many childhood years gun hunting a very target rich private parcel. I killed 5 or 6 deer a year for well over a decade and didn’t even have a clue Of how to hunt.

For a new comer, meat hunter, or folks with very limited time there isn’t a dang thing wrong with those lesser bucks. Believe the road most often traveled makes a hunter raise the bar to keep that reward feeling. Shooting a spike doesn’t exactly get the juices flowing like it did when I first started.

But also I think guys/gals care to much about what the FB mafia will think. They wanna go from zero to hero. It simply doesn’t work that way. Go shoot a pile of lesser bucks so u understand what it truly takes. Sadly that sounds boring but it’s not. Don’t cheat yourself out of the best hunting years of your life cause u wanna go varsity while still being in the 2nd grade.
Life is hard; It’s even harder if you are stupid.

Even though this is an older thread I will participate as I think I have a bit of experience with "Lesser" bucks. ;)

This isn't a buck but was my first deer. Shot with 20 guage pump.

This is my first buck. I nearly hit this one in the rear with the bow. The texas heart shot 8 point.

This buck I shot with my very first bow that I saved up for. A PSE Marauder (kind of like the Nova). I was so pumped to kill this buck with a bow that wasn't a hand me down. Saw him fall in sight and was just so excited!

spike 2.jpg

This was my first buck I killed when I started hunting on my own. My Dad had given up hunting and my Grandpa only hunted close to home. So I guess finding the spot, setting up the stand, and killing the buck, I did this one all on my own.

spike 1.jpg

This buck was what I called my first mobile hunting buck. I didn't do a hang and hunt everytime but I moved my heavy stand and sticks probably 8 times before killing this buck. Gosh I wish I had a LW and Beast Sticks back then. It was so loud and heavy I can remember how big a pain it was. This was a cool hunt though!

8 pt.jpg

This buck was a lot of fun to hunt. I had an encounter with him when it was too dark to shoot. I caught up with him a couple weeks later and made a perfect shot on him. I can still remember him running off in the snow and I could see the blood pouring out of him.

goat.jpg

This buck was a heavy buck with a tiny rack. Since I shot this buck, I've decided to go after the mature ones. It took shooting this one to realize I was ready to go after something bigger and older.
