Re: wind speeds
Once the wind hits 20+ mph I can count on seeing a lot of deer. In the hill country I generally hunt deer concentrate in certain areas to get out of the wind, particularly when it is colder...that means its easy to find them!
Also I have noticed that there seems to be less movement when it is dead calm....I have a couple of ideas on that. If the wind isn't blowing, the barometer is not moving, and deer in general move more with a moving barometer it seems. I probably am in the woods less when it is calm, if the air movement is light and highly variable I may not go hunting.

Re: wind speeds
I see the most in the 5-10 category but like joeRE stated...When it is REALLY windy the deer seem to move around even midday.

Re: wind speeds
I know that some people have posted best results on a windy day, and I think that might be specific to certain areas, here, I see my best activity on calm days. When it gets very windy they seem to shut down.

Re: wind speeds
Hard for me to determine whether or not the winds between 0-3 or 3-5, but typically it feels pretty darn calm when I see a lot of movement. Especially when the wind was in the 5-15 range during the day and stops right before last light.

Re: wind speeds
I see more deer activity with light 5 mph winds. I however see big buck movement in 20-25 MPH winds.
Keep in mind I'm not hunting open fields but thick buck brush. I have killed a lot of bucks in 20-25 mph winds. It may be the only buck I see that day but the big boys do move under windy conditions. I hate hunting in calm no wind days. Wind direction is so flimflam on those days. Hunter movement is detected easily, your scent pools up up around the stand. I could write a book about it.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

Re: wind speeds
I said 10-15, it is a lot easier for me to get into spots closer to bedding when you have the cover of wind to mask your entrance.

I do think that is true. I have hunted some in northern WI too where it is much flatter...and if the deer go somewhere on really windy days I have not seen found it yet. Most of my hunting is in bluff country though, deer just stack up out of the wind and I have had a pile of great hunts hunting near where does go to get out of the wind during the heat of the rut...honey draws flies!
