my best buck to date

Unread postby mallowtron » Sun Dec 09, 2012 3:25 pm

A lot had to go right on November 9 for me to get to hunt that afternoon. It started with finding a ride home from school for my son (thanks Makenna), and working like a dog all morning to get the last couple of my new windows installed (poor planning how I ended up with a project like that during the rut). In my rush to get out there, I neglected to check the weather for wind direction. I had checked a few days earlier, hoping I could hunt that day, and swear it was supposed to be a south wind. I was pretty stoked because I had an awesome stand that I was saving for a south wind. I arrived at the farm and started unloading my gear when I noticed the breeze hitting me in the back...gasp! East wind. I had no setup for an east wind. My stomach sunk as my brain raced to think of where to go. My buddy Todd had a good option for an east wind on the same property and a quick text granted me permission to sit in his stand (thanks Todd). I was only settled in for about 40 minutes when I caught a glimpse of movement to east and saw a solid buck heading straight to me. He stopped, facing me straight on, as he entered an opening at 18 yards, and looked up at me. A brief moment of panic faded when I saw that tail flick. He turned broadside and proceeded on a different trail behind some trees which offered me a prime opportunity to draw. As he entered the next opening, I settled the pin and let him have it. He ran about 20 yards and tipped over. What a rush! I thank God for another blessed hunt. copper/index.php?cat=10745

Great story and uber nice buck.
You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

That is a heck of a nice buck! Congrats! You know you owe Todd a good bottle of booze for that, right?

If you want to kill a deer you have to be in the woods.
