My Niece and Today's 8 point!
My six (6) year old niece got to go hunting with her dad today and had quite an experience. With a few inches of fresh snow on the ground she left for their hunting spot with great anticipation this morning. They arrived right at first light and were only hunting for a few minutes when this Michigan 8 point appeared. I'm sure she was extremely excited as her dad readied the gun and made the shot. The buck ran off out of sight and after waiting a bit they took up the trail. The buck didn't travel far and the hunt was a success. So in summary, my niece was able to:
* go hunting with dad
* make the stand approach in the newly fallen snow, with great anticipation
* hunt a very short time and have the magic of a Michigan 8 point appear
* watch her dad position himself and take the shot
* view the buck flee the scene
* tracking the buck down in the snow
* celebrate while watching dad tag the buck
* watch her first field dressing of a whitetail deer
* help in any way she could with the drag to the vehicle
* review the hunt with friends and family after getting home and watching everyone look at the buck
My niece had quite a hunt today- does it get any better than that?

Hard to think of how it could.

You can fool some of the bucks, all of the time, and fool all of the bucks, some of the time, however you certainly can't fool all of the bucks, all of the time.

That memory will be with her the rest of her life, and hopefully in a few years she can make some own memories with the deer she gets. Always glad to see new hunters getting involved, especially younger ladies, glad to see hunting appeals to everyone and is no longer considered a "mans sport". Kids are our future.

Very nice!! Glad she was able to share the experience with her dad. Hopefully she takes up the sport and many more days of shared memories will happen. Good stuff!

Great story, reminds me of my first hunt. Except my dad missed, a doe with the bow at close range. But I still remember every second of that encounter like it was yesterday. After dark we trailed a six point my uncle shot for a few hours, up to that point, that was the greatest night of my life.

Way to go, Awesome! Now that the min age law was removed, get a .243 and get her practicing for next year. I wish kids in SLP could use a rifle, tough getting them started with slug guns.
(SLP its perfectly legal to use high power rifles to hunt yotes, just not deer )
