I have my phone ... doesnt work in Canada though. In MN it got dead quiet one afternoon... I texted a buddy and said I was going to call in a buck and kill it. 15 min later I texted him again 'it worked.' ... didn't know it'd be three more hours til I sent him a pic after a challenging recovery. ... When I hunt a few weeks in a row it's good to say hi to people.

I know that next season I will be playing with milkweed all the time! I need to learn more about wind and thermals as they relate to different terrain and / or weather.

I don't get reception on my phone where I hunt so it stays in the truck.

I bring water because I am normally dehydrated when I reach my tree. I eat protein and granola/candy bars. During all day sits, I may bring a book if my set-up allows me the visibility. I sit with my bow in my lap 100% of the time so Im always ready for a shot at a moments notice.

I try to stay focused and enjoy the woods. Lot better than a day in the office.

I bring snacks, water, a sandwich, and usually take naps... Yea probably not the best or most productive way to go about things..... But I'm enjoying myself so IDGAF. Sometimes I'll even put in a single ear bud and listen to the radio on low volume.. I have to pass the time somehow because it's boring never seeing deer.. ;)

I usually don't take any food or water with me.. Maybe I should, but I normally pound a bottle of water before the hike in. I remember going to some of my dad's friends camp when I was younger and one of the guys there carried a bucket of beer to his stand with him. He had a rope and pulley at his stand and would pull the bucket up to his stand and tie the rope off and drink beer while on stand. Luckily he never got hurt.

Clearly another Massachusetts hunter. Pretty much the same for me. LOL.

Usually just water and my phone if I'm only gonna hunt 3-4 hours. All day hunts I bring a sandwich and a candy bar. I don't need any thing for boredom. I'm usually in a hunting trance.

After high school I became a Let's always be prepared kind of person. So even on short sits I always had some water and candy bars. In fact I usually had an emergency stash that usually didn't get eaten until I was preparing my gear the next year. On all day sits I got to where I had more water and simple foods that didn't make me thirsty. I quit taking sandwiches cause I hated having the extra bulk of a plastic container but without it my sandwiches always got all squished and messy. Everything always got packed in as quiet of a bag as possible. I only ate or drank on stand during all day sits usually waiting until after 2 o'clock because info at that time said rutting bucks weren't very active after 2 until about 2 hours before dark. Even then I was very cautious cause I was afraid something would come in then. After elk hunting for awhile I started carrying 4 smaller bottles of liquid. I'd wait until I was thirsty enough to drink the whole bottle so I wouldn't have any sloshing noises. I tried to always remember to have extra water in the truck if it was just a one day hunt since alot of the times I'd be out of it well before getting back. I started carrying a phone but only for emergencies and to check in with the wife on occasion cause I didn't have service in camp. I'm going to have to figure this all out again because with my disability I'm constantly thirsty.

I'm mostly focused on the hunt but send occasional texts and do my share of daydreaming.

Dewey wrote:Last few seasons I have been posting pretty heavy on the Live From The Stand thread while actually sitting on stand. I really enjoy doing that and it is pretty cool to go back and relive those hunts later when I read the posts but.......thinking in the future I will back off on that some since I got distracted enough a few times that I didn't see a deer until it was too close. I would really hate to mess up on a good buck because I was not paying attention 100%.

Nooooooo! J/k. I usually don't read those posts live anyway. But I do enjoy your updates.
