Another One Hits The Dust :(

Unread postby Sam Ubl » Fri Jun 11, 2010 1:19 am

The 163 acres I scored suffered the third buck casualty since spring. The first was just after the bucks starting growing nub bases, and he had a big body and soda can bases... The second was last week when a sweet looking deer with great growth got smoked in the same spot as the first one. Now, today as I'm driving to work, I see yet a third buck, this one with 4" brows and thick bases and tines beginning to branch off the main beams.

Good sign there are some bucks on the property, but jeesh, stop committing suicide already! :|

Ouch!!! A few years ago I'm pretty sure a buck from the previous year (150 Inch 10 pointer) got smoked on the road In the Spring right around the 2nd week of April. His growth was awesome. I was so bummed out.

I'll keep a look out ;)

Most deer that get hit this time of year are the younger bucks as the does are kicking them away when their fawns come. These bucks usually travel to relocate, sometimes up to 5 miles from where they lived. So now is the time to keep a look out, there will be a lot of deer moving around for another couple weeks.

Wow!!! This has always been a huge worry of mine being I drive by the land I own with my milk truck 3 to 4 times a day during light and dark hours around the prime time for them to be moving.

For me it's not so easy. As I planned it, I searched out EVERY huntable property along my travel route between work and home so that in the fall I would have time to get from the office to the stand before too late. Since I moved to Mukwonago, Erin (Holy Hill) is just too far come late October, but my Delafield spots are still reachable. This new land I scored is just perfect, though, being only 10 minutes from work and home. Not to mention, my wife will see my car as she also takes the same route to work, and she'll know I'll be home soon after dark (unless i stick one). Actually, it's kind of awesome driving past the land twice a day - its daily scouting, baby!

Dan - my friend, that is some terrible luck. Do you still keep the rack to remember him by?
