Re: 2012 Rut Reports
Still haven't seen any older bucks seeking or chasing does, everything has been 2 1/2 or younger. Pretty good action on them but the older bucks don't seem to be super active yet.
The mature buck I saw last night was on his feet at 4:15 pretty much right on with the moon charts. He was destroying a bush for about 15 minutes.
Hope things pick up soon since my vacation time is running out!

I seen a big boy yesterday chase a doe past me. I didn't get a great look because of how thick the brush was but I think it was the monster drop tine non typical I've been chasing

Re: 2012 Rut Reports
I shot a 1.5 year old 9 point tonight on some public as he was cruising, entering a doe bedding area. He was the only deer I saw and came in at last light. Tomorrows trophies today this year for me on this piece of public. I still have tags to fill so now it's a 3 year old or older for me. I still might shoot a doe though.

Re: 2012 Rut Reports
Between Friday and Monday (2nd - 5th), I've seen 11 does bucks. None were being chased. Saw one forky casually walking back to bed early AM. I'm expecting things to heat up with the dark period that we're headed into starting tomorrow.

Re: 2012 Rut Reports
Three more does bedded today with no bucks on their tails. Saw one spikey out, but not in pursuit of anything. I can feel the pressure building boys. It's gonna happen soon.

Re: 2012 Rut Reports
2 bucks cruising at midday. Rattled one in for a closer look. He was a 2.5 yr old 7 pt. a third buck was feeding by me then some does came in and he proceeded to chase them. Yesterday my buddy rattled in a 140 inch ten pt. it's on!

Re: 2012 Rut Reports
It seems like I had better action 5 days ago. I have been hunting hard around home, things went cold. Went up to our land hour and half away. Couple small bucks and a few does. Hopped around today, hunted all day. 3 different sets, one yearling. Keep on keeping on I guess?
Does anyone think that some older bucks are tending does?

Re: 2012 Rut Reports
At the park that I hunt based on the buck harvest they think that the rut started 10/27 and that we're in lockdown right now. I don't know, but I haven't seen a thing the last 5 days and only 3 bucks been taken in the last 5 days on a property that usually would have 3-4 a day taken during this time. We'll see. Late seek is pretty good over here though.

Re: 2012 Rut Reports
I think the big bucks are tending as well, I live in the heart of deer county and I saw about 25 deer out tonight in fields and not one buck. I believe our best action this year was 10/27-11/5 for the prime rut IMHO. I hope I'm wrong but from what I've been seeing its all but over.
