Night Vision?
Anyone out there using night vision? I'm thinking about buying some but need it to be under $500. You can only spot in PA until 11 pm, and can't spot in Ohio at all, so I'm thinking it would be an investment well worth it if I can find a model that works decent. What models do you guys use and do they work well for spotting fields?

Re: Night Vision?
I don't have night vision except on video cameras, but from what I understand the depth of view is very short and you would have a hard time viewing deer from a vehicle. On the cameras I only have about 10 feet if that. The reason we have really good night vision video is because we enhance the night vision with a spot light. Adding light, or low light they work pretty good in...

Re: Night Vision?
I personally have never used them for spotting dear but I can tell you first hand as i am in the US Army and currently deployed that night vision isnt what its cracked up to be. You lose alot of depth perception and i dont think it would help with spotting out into a field far off, the deer will most likely show up as black blobs in your night vision, i personally hate night vision but ive been told if you can figure out how to use it correctly they can be very effective, ide rather go out with thermal scopep on a .50cal myself but thats getting off track! hahah

HEY BROTHER!!! Its not too bad, free food, free board, i get to play with weapons daily. The only downfall is having to pay for internet and being 8000 miles away from home! I should be home for good before christmas though

Re: Night Vision?
I have two night vision units and an infrared filter on my portable spotlight. I would say it's good for 80 yards max. After that the clarity (lack of) and lack of light (the filter absorbs a lot) makes it of very limited use. Maybe with a stronger spotlight the range could be extended (mine is 1 million candle power), but I haven't tried it.
It seems to me like you can spend a lot of money for a only a small improvement, but I'm no expert. You might want to try an inexpensive model first (like this one I have keep meaning to put on ebay).

You cannot invade mainland America. There would be a rifle behind every blade of grass.
