Morning hunts.

Unread postby Crazinamatese » Fri Oct 19, 2012 12:15 pm

The last two hunts I went on in the late afternoon/evening last weekend has produced little action. I noticed the deer have kinda moved out of there summer range the last few weeks. Anyone think hunting mornings is a good choice right now near bedding areas? Or still early?

I hunt mornings during the rut but out side of the rut If you have a flawless entry route and can get there two hours before light a morning hunt can work, if not I prefer not to risk it.

I'm almost tempted to start hunting mornings. The end of next week the coldest weather of the season is gonna hit and my vacation starts so I will begin my frosty morning hunts!!

Yep!! As far as I'm concerned it's the best time of the whole season to arrow a Slob that's just a little late getting back to bed!!

Is two hours the time needed before daylight? The reason I ask (as a very new guy) is that I have went out 3 times in the morning this week and I usually got in my blind about an hour before daylight. Thanks.

I think an hour would the minimum time you want to give it, I like to try for 1.5-2 hours just to be safe. Even if the deer aren't back to their bedroom yet I often hear them milling around the bedding area an hour before dark. If you are just getting settled in it might be too late. Of course take this with a grain of salt, you might be able to setup 15 minutes before shooting light and get the job done but that won't work most of the time.

Headgear,

Thank you for the reply and “yikes”, getting up at 4:30 took a bit to get used to, now I may have to go even earlier.

I usually have to get up at 3:00 - 3:30 for my morning hunts. 4:30 would be a treat IMO:-)
